Marcia Dawood

Marcia Dawood heads up Operations at Portfolia. Her role is to make our member experience extraordinary. She also works with the entrepreneurs who apply to Portfolia to ensure all qualified applicants are introduced to the proper Portfolia fund for review.

Marcia has extensive experience in early stage investing. Previously, she was a managing partner at BlueTree Capital Group where she was responsible for investment strategy, diligence research and member education. Marcia has reviewed thousands of startup applications, led many due diligence teams and made investment decisions.

She currently serves on the Board of the Angel Capital Association (ACA) with a chair position on the membership and marketing committee. She was asked in January 2018 to renew a second three-year term on the 20-person board. Marcia is also a founding member and current chair of the Growing Women’s Capital group building syndication and collaboration among U.S. investment groups focused on women-led companies.

She holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master’s of Business Administration from the Global Executive program at UNC’s Kenan Flagler’s School of Business, OneMBA.  

During her graduate studies, her group acquired the franchise rights to a new sports team. She served on the Board of Directors and managed financial and legal matters for the organization. This gave her experience as an entrepreneur from the start through the exit of a business.

Marcia is an experienced speaker at many national and international venues.

Prior to becoming an active investor she was with Kaplan Higher Education for over 16 years. During the first ten years at Kaplan, Marcia excelled in sales and marketing with countless awards and numerous promotions. The last 6+ years in operations included running a P&L for a region of four colleges and leading compliance for 72 campuses across the country. Her last operating role was the VP of Career Services managing the teams that placed over 12,000 graduates annually in their field of study.
