Dr. Mary Lake Polan, MD, PhD, MPH - Reproductive Endocrinologist
Dr. Polan worked and taught at Yale University School of Medicine until 1990, with intervals as a visiting professor in Iran in 1978 and China in 1986. In 1990 she moved to Stanford University School of Medicine, where she has since served as chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and as the Katharine Dexter McCormick and Stanley McCormick Memorial Professor.
Dr. Polan has published more than 150 articles, chapters, and books in her areas of research, and in the laboratory at Stanford she focuses on reproductive endocrinology and infertility and, most recently, on gene expression patterns in uterine fibroids (benign tumors). She is a practicing clinical Reproductive Endocrinologist with a research interest in ovarian function and granulosa cell steroidogenesis. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital and a member of many professional societies.
She serves as an advisor or board director for many organizations, including Motif Bio Plc, ChromaVision Medical Systems Inc, OBMedical Company, The Daily Wellness Company, Arbor Vita Corporation, Metra Biosystems, Inc., Aviana Molecular Technologies, LLC, Nascent Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Progenesis Technologies LLC, NovaTract Surgical Inc, Mira Dx, Inc., Privacomp, Inc., Gynecare, Inc. Dr. Polan serves on numerous medical and health committees, including the Council of the National Institutes of Health, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) and the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Human Research Protection (SACHRP) for the Department of Health and Human Services. She has been a Member of the Board of Health Sciences Policy of the Institute of Medicine, a unit of the National Academy of Sciences, since 1992.
